SBT Accounting Authorized Reseller

One of the world's leading suppliers of database accounting software, SBT provided Foxpro source code with its software systems. This enabled resellers to make modifications tailored to a customer's needs. These modifications also enabled a myriad of third party applications and add-ons. Several of the modules on which I worked extensively include:

  • Payroll - Extensive customization of the base SBT package, and a linkage into a custom billing application. Professional Health Care services would provide physical therapists to offices and hospitals and would use this system to coordinate client billing and therapist compensation.
  • Accounts Receivable - Modifications to this module allowed American Film Wholesalers to tie in their enormous solar film inventory into their billing system. A "point and shoot" interface allowed them to not only see what products were in stock, but to automatically deplete them in real time, when the invoice was created.

The beauty of SBT accounting is that custom accounting and operational applications could be created for any kind of business, without the need to build a system from the ground up. The software could be structured to fit the needs of the business, rather than vice versa. SBT's "Pro Series", built around Microsoft's Visual Foxpro database engine, is currently owned by Sage.

Intertel technician-GX telephone system

Circa 1987, CAP Engineering, Inc. entrusted me with its database programming, and charged me with implementing a full service phone system as well. The Intertel GX was a Key Service Unit (KSU), which featured (among other things), over 100 user friendly functions, a 27 slot expandable card file assembly, and support for up to 32 CO lines, at 120 stations.

A noteworthy achievement was my ability to capture SMDR data through its RS232C port, buffer it through a communication program, and process it into usable reports.

TWA Agency Reservation Automation Training

In 1976, Trans World Airlines started offering access to its internal reservation system to retail travel agencies. The system was called PARS©. Travel agents would undergo extensive training at TWA's Kansas City headquarters, and return with the knowledge to book flights, hotels or car reservations.

Northwest purchased 50% of PARS in 1986, and by 1988, Datas II Business Systems merged with Delta. This set the stage for an agreement between Delta, Northwest and TWA in 1990 to combine systems into what is today known as Worldspan, by Travelport.
